The Paper Moon
Probably, for you, too. Almost everytime I go to Chicago, I make sure to buy something for our family dog, whether it be a new chew toy or a special treat. In search of unique presents for her, I used to go to the pet store George off of Fillmore Street. I once got her a red, studded leather collar from there, and my family loves it on our dog. I’m sure she loves it too.. or does she? Anyway, I thought of getting her a new collar some time ago but haven’t been able to, partly because I want to find something unique.. something pretty! So I was glad to find so many pet links at Daily Candy today. I especially like the colorful collars at Bella Bean Couture (is that the font ‘Girls are Weird’ from robotjohnny.com that I see on the front page and on the product labels?). Maybe I’ll check them out at a local store. Would they be as durable as a leather collar? Oh well, all I know is, a pink polka dot collar would look darling on our Fifi.
I don’t know about you folks but I love boston terriers. So you can imagine my delight at finding a graphic tee featuring a boston terrier. I’m not a big fan of those t-shirts that have realistic renderings of dogs. They look so.. I don’t know.. old. The one that I found is from a Korean apparel company called Andew (their style kinda reminds me of Club Monaco) and is actually fashionably acceptable. I showed this to my sister, who started all the boston terrier craze in my family, and she liked it. She already owns a boston terrier t-shirt that reads “Mon petit monstre.” Anyway, the problem with these tees is that the boston terrier looks so..masculine, and our family dog looks very feminine. But then again, she doesn’t look like a typical boston terrrier anyway. She doesn’t look ‘tough’ or “like an alien” as Matt said. She’s much much cuter.
Oh well, maybe I should start designing boston terrier t-shirts myself.
[Edit]
I found a designer that uses more feminine design of a boston terrier.

This year’s winner of Caldecott Medal is titled Kitten’s First Full Moon, written and illustrated by Kevin Henkes. For those who don’t know, Caldecott Medal is awarded annually “to the artist of the most distinguised American Picture Book for Children published in US during the preceding year.” As a children’s book illustrator wannabe, I’m supposed to keep up with these kinds of things. And I actually did! Well, by pure chance. I happen to see Kevin Henkes in a TV interview the day the awards were announced. But I haven’t picked up the book yet! I sure hope I will soon because I am liking the bold black-and-white lineworks he used.
By the way, this year’s Newberry Medal was awarded to Kira-Kira written by Cynthia Kadohata. That’s right, きらきら〜
I love patterns. I really do, that’s why I like buying patterned fabrics. Lately I’ve been noticing that a lot of nicely designed sites use background patterns that are very sophisticated and pixel-ly. Sites like Cust + Paste, Utada-online.net, and
I thought, they must have gotten them from somewhere! So after a little search, I found these two wonderful sites:
Squidfingers (don’t you just love the name?)
Kaliber 10000
I’m so glad I finally found them. Thanks everybody~
