Make Your Own Prince

Thursday, September 29th, 2005

Only two days left!! And Matt finally bought an extra copy of We Love Katamari from EB Games, just in case the other copy from CD Universe doesn’t arrive on time. It pains me that it can’t be opened.

Instead, I kept my hands busy last night by making an origami of the prince. That’s right!
Paper Prince
I found a link to the PDF file for the template here. I believe the original came from here.
It was not easy to make. My regular glues weren’t good enough, so I had to resort to my trusty matte medium. It was very frustrating.. I had to curl the papers often so that they would stay in shape and want to attach to other parts. For sure, I would not make this again.

Katamari pouch for iPod mini

Katamari Damacy iPod mini pouch
The countdown continues. 3 days left! And we don’t know if the game will arrive on time!

Well, in the meantime, I present you my first attempt at making a drawstring pouch. It is all handmade! No sewing machine! I had lots of fun making this, although embrodery at times was very frustrating. Lesson learned. Use the right tools, like embroidery needle.

The iPod mini belongs to Matt, and he originally wanted the face of King of All Cosmos but I suggested that the Prince would be better because the iPod mini is also green. It is an afterthought, but I think it would’ve been cooler if the Prince was wearing headphones, one of his royal presents. But I’m pretty proud of this creation. The face is a little off center and asymmetric but darn it, isn’t it cute? Of course the King of All Cosmos would say, “It’s just okay. Make it better next time. If it were ours, it’d be much better.”

Funk it up!

Funk it up!
Your PSP, that is. The top one is mine, with the princely prince and the girly straps, and the bottom one is Matt’s. The bottom right is how both PSP’s look like in the back. Cool, huh? Thanks to nexthttp for the link to the skins. It was easy to make, just print and cut! Well, I opened the image in Photoshop and changed the resolution to 300dpi before printing. But that’s about it, folks.

Four days left! Matt’s copy of the game has been finally shipped. Let’s hope that it will arrive on time. What’s a game release party without the game?

Katamari Fan Art

A very impressive fan art at the official We ♥ Katamari English website. Now, that’s fan dedication. We are awed.

Katamari Fortissimo Damacy

Monday, September 26th, 2005

Still 5 days left!

Any fans of the first Katamari Damacy game will tell you that its soundtrack Katamari Fortissimo Damacy rocks. It has electronic, jazz and pop scores.. My favorites are the songs that have that ‘royal’ feel, like Fugue #7777. The ending theme cracks me up because of its grand opening vocal, which reminds me of Chage & Aska’s song, On Your Mark.

Some of the notable lyrics from tracks with vocals include phrases like “Katamari do your best!”, “Check it up, funk it up, minna damatte ore ni tsuite koi, yeah!”, “Let’s roll up to be a single star in the sky.” Especially the intro tune that goes “na na na na na na na…” is very addictive.

Here is a site I found that has romaji and English translation of the lyrics.

Cat Skirt by Emily Temple cute

Monday, September 26th, 2005

I was browsing magazines in Japantown when I saw a picture of this cute dress in a magazine called Spoon:

(above image credit to this site)
It is by Emily Temple cute. Other clothes I saw in their website is almost too girly for my taste.. I believe they call this sort of style Lolita fashion? But I like how the skirt looks, not that I would wear it..:P

Time is Art

Thursday, September 22nd, 2005

Hey I found this cool looking book called “Time is ART Hiro & Mitsu” by Chika Akazaki. Check out how the book opens.

Her technique is something I’d love to try, using cut-outs of paper, because I love texture and hint of 3-dimensionality created by layers of papers. By the way, there are many artists worth checking out at Skyfish Graphix, the publisher’s website (link via wee wonderfuls).

Linda Linda Lyrics

Wednesday, September 21st, 2005

Matt and Richa already watched this movie called Linda Linda Linda, and I really want to watch it too. The theme song of the movie is called Linda Linda by the Blue Hearts, and it’s already stuck in my head. What’s really fun about the song is the lyrics. After searching a little bit, I found the lyrics here (it also has Korean translation) and here (romaji and English translation). Here is my version of the English translation.

I want to be beautiful like a sewer rat
Because in pictures, there is beauty that is not captured.
Linda Linda…

If I meet you and have a talk with you some time,
Please understand the meaning of love then.
Linda Linda..

Like a sewer rat, nicer than anybody else
Like a sewer rat, warmer than anything

If I meet you and have a talk with you some time,
Please understand the meaning of love then.
Even though it’s not affection, even though it’s not love, I won’t part with you
I hold only the strong power that cannot be beaten
Linda Linda..

It is too addictive… :)
Linda Linda, Linda Linda Linda~ ^▽^♪♪

iBook saved!

Wednesday, September 21st, 2005

I’ve been living dangerously so far, pushing my iBook’s limits a little too much. But can you blame me? It is an old G3 with 500 MHz, 640 MB SDRAM, and only 10GB, most of which I filled with iPhoto library and loads of big apps like Photoshop, Illustrator, and MS Office. I’ve been warned way too many times, ‘Your startup disk is almost full.’ I cringed everytime there was a software update. But no longer! My iBook is safe now. Last night was the last straw because it went down to 0KB free space. I’ve tolerated 48 KB before. I just closed some apps, especially Photoshop, and moved some files to other hard drives. But I don’t have to anymore~ I’m using Matt’s iPod that he doesn’t use now to house my iPhoto library. My iBook is 4.1 GB free! O. M. G. Thanks Matt!
