Strange Dream

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

I dreamed couple days ago that I got my ears pierced. And I actually looked good with earrings on! Hm.. What does this mean? I’ve been kinda thinking about getting my ears pierced just because I think the earrings nowadays are so pretty.. you know, the long, dangly kinds. Is my dream trying to tell me something? Do I really want to make that irrevocable change? Who knows..

Craftwork 2006/02/22

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

Heh.. I’ve been so preoccupied with work that I haven’t been keeping my promise of creating an artwork everyday. But that’s just an excuse, of course. Anyway, instead of an ‘artwork,’ whatever that may be, I present you my latest experiment in crafts! Ta da~
Pin Cushion
It is a pin cushion! I made it using a tiny copper pan and some wool fabric I salvaged from Matt’s old slipper bag. I knew I wanted to embroider it somehow, so I learned how to make French and German knots. Cool, huh. And don’t forget to check out the beads! They’re from my mom… What do you think? I think it turned out great! A little messy around the edges because I was a little inexperineced with the hot glue gun.. But that’s okay.. I’m happy with the results. :D Now, I have to actually start using this thing.. Maybe I’ll make some embroidered buttons. Stay tuned!

Valentine’s Day

Thursday, February 16th, 2006

Happy belated Valentine’s Day~!
Valentine's Day
I made this card for Matt. Unfortunately, he was out of town on a business trip to Tennessee on the 14th, so I’m posting its picture now. It was my first time trying embroidery on paper. It was simple but I had to make sure not to stitch too close together because otherwise, I’d make a huge whole in the paper.

Sugar Cookies
These are some sugar cookies I baked for Valentine’s Day.
First time baking cookies from scratch! I learned that beating butter and sugar is not for my weak arms. -_-;; Dipping them in chocolate glaze was fun. Heh.. Check out the little bumps. I guess my chocolate glaze wasn’t uniform enough. :P

Artwork 2006/02/12

Wednesday, February 15th, 2006

I know I haven’t been blogging at all recently.. And I admit, I haven’t been creating artwork everyday. So far, I missed two days.. :( But that’s okay because what I’m about to show you all are fantastic. *cough*

Umbrellas
This is a quick experiment in making very textured linework. It reminds me of watercolor projects I did when I was in kindergarten. I would draw with crayons and color with watercolor. The crayons would repel water, so the linework always showed through.

Here I used a blue oil pastel to draw the umbrellas. Then I quickly colored with watercolor, scanned, and filled the umbrellas with some color using Photoshop. Done in Maruman CARnet sketchbook.

Tomorrow, I’ll show you a Valentine’s Day special. It’s all done and scanned. But you’ll have to wait!

I’m on a roll!
Paper cutout #2
This is, if you will, the ‘opposite’ of my previous artwork. I just saved the pieces of paper left over from cutting out the shape of the branch (negative spaces) and used them to make this piece. Cool! The patterns are from a collage of papers from a clothing catalogue, and the white dots are white opaque watercolor.

This is how both of them look together in my sketchbook:

Ah, my dear skeptical readers, I’m happy to report that I’ve done all of the things I promised yesterday. Yep, I sure did! And here is my artwork:
Paper cutout #1
I’ve always wanted to do this.. making a silhouette by cutting out a piece of paper.. It forces you to focus on shape design. What do you think? ;) For those who keep up with my pictures, you’ll notice that the design is directly from this picture I took. You gotta love photographic references.

The scalloped edge is made by a Fiskars paper edger.. What a piece of junk! Maybe I got a defective product but its quality plain sucks. -_-;;

Things I promise to do everyday

Thursday, February 9th, 2006

Publicly announcing these might come back and bite me some day but might as well do it.
So here they are, things I promise to do everyday:
1. Create an artwork. Any kind of artwork. Expect to see them here.
2. Sit-ups and push-ups. One more than the previous day.
3. Lift weights (for my weak arms).
4. Read. Anything. Anything but stuff on the web.
5. Make at least a page of sketches. This is different from #1 in that this is for brainstorming and bigger projects.
6. Write a diary.
7. Rock out ’cause I’m a Guitar Hero. Just kidding.

You think these are realistic goals? I think so.
If you’d like, you can bother me about them everyday.
Reminders are always welcome. :D
